Sharing is Caring, and as the festive season approaches, you’d definitely want to know how to share your data on MTN or transfer data on MTN
MTN Data Share allows MTN users to share their existing active data plan on their MTN SIM.
There are several methods of sharing data on MTN Share, and I’ll be showing them to you.
Method #1: MTN Data Gifting
You could easily use this method to share your data with whomever you wish, all it takes is a simple USSD code.
To get started, dial *123*3#, Reply the pop-up message with 7. After that, you’ll see a list of options to choose from; they include the option to transfer data from your current data plan, buy data for a friend, or even request data from a friend.
Pick the one you wish to go for, and then proceed to input the friend’s number, as well as the amount of data, would like to be shared with him/her.
However, with this method, you can only share twice in one day, and the maximum you can share in a day is 200MB.
Method #2: Postpaid Data Sharing
If you’re a postpaid subscriber, just activate any applicable data plan, and then proceed to dial *131*2*1# or text REG to 131.
You’re registering for MTN Data Share, and you’ll receive a security PIN that’s unique to your SIM.
You have to change that default PIN to a new one. Dial *131*2*5# or text “Change OLD PIN NEW PIN” to 131, that is, “Change xxxx yyyy” to 131; where xxxx is the old PIN while yyyy is the new PIN,
Afterward, just add beneficiaries to your MTN shared Data Bundle Account, using the USSD *131*2*3# or texting Add to 131. You have the liberty to add up to 5 people.
Once the beneficiaries have been added, your data can now be shared between them when you dial *131*2*4# or text the word Share to 131.
Method #3: MTN SME Data Share
This method is commonly used by employers in a small business, allowing them to share data with their employees.
This method allows you (being the sponsor of the data) to control the internet usage per beneficiary.
To use this method, you would first migrate to MTN SME Plus tariff plan by texting the number 460 to 131.
Once on the tariff, you can now share your data by sending a text to 131 in this format: SMEA <PhoneNumber> Amount <PIN> .
If you’re adding more beneficiaries, the letter after “SME” changes, e.g. SMEA, SMEB, SMEC, and so on.
Data sharing is a really nice feature, especially as the festive period is approaching, you definitely want to show some love with your data.
If the above methods seem too stressful for you, you could resort to the regular hotspot data sharing, since literally every phone out now is capable of that.
But MTN Data Sharing service is for sharing data with people who aren’t physically in the same place as you.
